This is a WebQuest about the USA. As part of American culture studies it is designed for students in their 8th or 9th year of learning English by a college student for a seminar called “Web-based ELT”.
In this WebQuest the students are supposed to learn about the US public transportation system, its history and the political debate. This is a project oriented task. The students are supposed to learn how to organize themselves in groups and their given time. They should also learn how to plan and execute a presentation and involve the audience in it.
The material that I suggest is all authentic and rather difficult. That is why I definetily think it to be suitable for upper level English classes.
Schedule
45 min. – forming groups, reading the introduction, the tasks and the evaluation criteria, organize the groups
90 min. – working through the material
90 min. – making the presentations
45 min. – writing the individual essays
90 min. – presentations in groups
This schedule of course depends on the sizes of the groups and their English skills. I haven’t tried it yet but would be very excited to get some feedback from somebody who has or anyone who is interested.
